The soul of our nation is being devoured. Small town America is being fed into the corporate machine, as Main Street dies and Dollar General rises up in its place. Every town looks the same, every soul consumed - unless we act now to stop it.

As an investigative journalist, I've seen the devastating impacts of this corporate takeover up close. A few years back, I was nearly killed while investigating a child trafficking operation out west. The trauma of that attack left me a virtual hermit, relying on the internet and Amazon for most of my needs.

But every so often, I have no choice but to brave the outside world. That's what brought me to the local Dollar General the other day, that harsh institutional lighting and chemical smell hitting me as soon as I walked through the doors. It was a disturbing reminder of how the America I once knew is vanishing before our eyes.

The biblical warning behind America's corporate conquest

This corporate domination of small town America isn't just a socioeconomic shift - it may in fact be the fulfillment of a biblical prophecy about the end times. In the book of Revelation, the apostle John describes a great and mighty "Babylon" that will one day fall.

"Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird!" (Revelation 18:2)

Many biblical scholars believe this "Babylon" represents the corrupted, materialistic society that will dominate the world in the last days. Could the systematic destruction of Main Street America at the hands of soulless corporate giants like Dollar General be a troubling sign that this prophecy is unfolding right before our eyes?

The alarming parallels between America and "Babylon"

The similarities between modern America and the "Babylon" of Revelation are undeniable. Just as the ancient Babylonian empire was known for its greed, materialism, and exploitation of the poor, so too has America become a land of rampant consumerism, where profit margins matter more than human souls.

"She has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird!" (Revelation 18:2)

The soulless corporate takeover of our small towns, with their "institutional brightness that makes everything look slightly poisonous" - this sounds eerily like the spiritual darkness and defilement described in Scripture. And the fact that I, a seasoned investigative journalist, have become a virtual hermit, afraid to leave my home...this too aligns with the isolated, hopeless existence prophesied for those who dwell in the new Babylon.

Will America fall like the ancient empire of Babylon? The warning signs are there, if we have eyes to see.

"The truth doesn't hide. It waits for those brave enough to look."
