The Dollar General Dystopia

I don't leave my house much anymore. After getting stabbed investigating a child trafficking operation out west a few years back, I developed severe PTSD and became something of a hermit. But every now and then, I need something immediately and have no choice but to brave the great outdoors of what we still call civilization.

Today was one of those days. I bundled up against the freezing winter temperatures, climbed on my e-scooter, and zipped down to the local Dollar General. The fluorescent lights hit me first when I walked in - that harsh, institutional brightness making everything look slightly poisonous. Then the smell. Plastic and cardboard and something vaguely chemical.

It's the same story in town after town across America. Main Street is dying, consumed by the corporate machine. Every mom-and-pop shop, snuffed out. Every local soul, ground into the gears of Big Business. And the harbinger of this destruction? The ubiquitous Dollar General.

The Prophet Daniel warned of a coming "little horn" that would "speak pompous words against the Most High" and "intend to change times and law" (Daniel 7:25). Does that not sound like the encroaching grip of global corporatism, seeking to remake our society in its own image?

And the Apostle John, in the book of Revelation, foretold a time when "no one could buy or sell" without submitting to the "mark of the beast" (Revelation 13:17). The technology exists right now - brain chips, digital currency, surveillance of every transaction. Are we not staring down the barrel of this prophetic warning?
